I have a 99 XJ. Two questions. Will this locker work in my Cryco 8.25 rear? Could I run it in my front D30 if I wanted to?

There are readers out there, but they're a waste of money. You're better off doing the key trick for free to get your CEL codes, and using that site to identify the failure

hey i have multiple questions.
1- can the newer doors without the little triangle window thingie (lol) fit on my 93?
2- If #1 is no, can the folding mirrors of said doors mount to mine?

i have a really hard time seeing the mirrors while driving due to that metal support that splits the two windows.

3. how do i get my "build sheet" ? the P/o of my jeep said it was a d35 frond d40 rear axles.

4. I've replaced the floorpans in my xj with some 3/16 sheet metal and in process removed bolts for seat mounting along with the metal brackets for the rear seat. i can fab new brackets but I am trying to find a good place to find seats on the cheap.

thanks for the answers..

Mookie Jan 24, 2013 04:03 PM

also what does "locker" mean?

Then I brought up the point that ~65% of XJs out there would be early models... Seems he'd bring in more money making some for late models but went on to say that 90% of his sales were from late models... :dunno:

Don't bushsmacker flats fit any year? That makes no sense.

The doors are a direct swap if you swap hinges. The striker for the latch (at the back) is different, and would have to be replaced as well. This would require removal of the original and welding in the new one. Would also require the old hole to be filled.

If you don't want to do that, you can take the mirror off a newer XJ, and they are a direct swap onto yours.

Build sheet depends on your model year. If it's older than '91, Chrysler most likely threw it away. If it's '91+, you can click here, click "Send Us An Email", fill out the information, and tell them you would like a copy of your build sheet emailed to you. It may take a couple days.

Cheap seats: look at part-outs on forums, on Craigslist, or visit junkyards.

Flat flares do. They even fit Comanches, despite our larger rear wheel well opening. We just have to trim a little differently. I suspect Napier flares are of similar design, but not replicas. They may fit all years (I don't know; haven't seen them in person), but perhaps they don't fit properly. Maybe they require some trimming, or the cosmetics just aren't quite there. For whatever reason, he may not be satisfied with marketing them for other models.

This is all speculation, as I don't have any experience with them.

1. Yup absolutely. Common swap but there is a bit of fab required.

3. http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universa...ull&category=U There was no D40 offered on XJs. Probably meant or you typoed D30. This thread has everything you will ever want to know about axles: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/axle-info-113355/ Second page has pictures.

4. Junkyard or Craigslist If you have the rails from your old seats, you can mount ZJ seats onto them

A locker is a device that installs into a differential that mechanically locks the two axle shafts together. Some are automatic mechanical lockers that basically seize up when one wheel starts to slip, others are selectable in that you flip a switch to control it. The point is to make sure both wheels still turn when one slips.

EDIT: Hmm a bit late to the game. This is what happens when people start phoning me while I'm working on a post.

transmission

i have a 96 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6cyl 4.0 4x4, on the highway it made a loud bang and i lost overdrive, it was at 3000 rpms at 70mph, i slowed down than the center console display said transmission overtemp, i pulled over and tried shifting into different gears then when i went to take off it wouldn't go anywhere, i shut off the engine and started it back up and it hesitated to go, it finally went but still no overdrive, when i got off the highway i came to a light, when i took off again it wouldnt switch out of 1st gear until i let the gas go, just want to make sure that its a def tranny problem and not a transfer case problem, any insight will be greatly appreciated.

If your in 2WD, the transmission is the issue.

Id say its a transmission problem especially since the dash said "trans overtemp." Heat is the biggest enemy for auto transmissions. Have you checked the fluid level or smelled it to indicate if its burnt.

Get that junk out of there. Drain and fill with ATF+4 (You said Grand Cherokee right?)

However the bang likely means something verybad happened  Should drop the transmission pan and see what kinds of bits you find

If you have lost overdrive, it's probably hurt. I'd recommend a transmission shop.
