Mine has the same problem i was told to run a brass line from the oil pump to the far side of the lifters because in some cases the oil pump can only pump enough oil to oil the first 5 lifters and the sixth isn't out sufficiently. I don't know if this is true but just thought i would put this out there.

X2 on the exhaust leak,, i had a little DD that had an exhaust leak and for the longest time i thought it was a lifter knock until i put my hands near the exhaust mani and felt way to much air escaping... i know its gonna be tough w/ all the crammed parts but get your hands over the exhaust mani and if you feel any air coming from it,, its an exhaust leakOriginally Posted by COSXJFAN
If it's a stuck lifter, it can damage the cam shaft. The ticking noise is metal hitting metal, AKA, bad!! You can replace bad lifters...on a side note, sometimes cracked exhaust manifolds will sound like a lifter, and they do get quieter as the motor warms up.

I have a 92 with somewhat of the same problem. I found out it was a quart low on oil after I got it so I added some mystery oil to see if one of the lifters was stuck. I solved one one my knocking problems. I am still thinking I have a mani leak too. mine has just over 174000 on it.
