Exclamation XJ 242 rubber bung.....

Hi all!
Now, can anyone tell me what the little rubber bung just ahead of the selector shaft for transfer case is? It is about 1/2" across and looking at one at a wrecker it is about 1/4" deep. Mine is leaking and I had a feeling over the weekend it was the breather up by the engine all blocked up that is forcing the fluid out this hole past the bung.
I have since cleaned the breather out and I am going to extend the hose as it will just clog again.

Anyone know what its for and am I on the right track with the presurization thing??

Thanks all!!

OLIVER
