Is it worth it to swap my engine?
hello, so i have a 89 cherokee laredo 4x4 4 door, and its all rusted to hell, i found a 90 cherokee 4x4 2 door without a motor with 150k on the body, my jeep has 165k, i dont really have alot of cash but the jeep i was gonna buy is $400 so its a steal Imo. how much would it cost to have the engine swapped into the 2 door by a shop? or if i did it myself? i am not very good with engine stuff as im quite new to mechanics, so what would be better to do also? and how long do you think it would take a shop to do it?

Buy the '90.
Call around to your local shops and see if they've changed engines in a Jeep XJ. Ask how much and how long it will take.
Use the '89 as a parts bin then scrap it.
Id say buy it and swap it, if you're up to it and have access to tools, do it yourself, or if you have $ and no time you can have a shop do it. Bought my 98 with a "blown head gasket" but actually a cracked block, bout a 93 zj with cracked windsheild for $300 from an old lady, swapped engine in which was a pain, sold zj minus engine for $300 to some dude. First jeep and love it
...
Sorry got off point, went into the project with little knowledge of how that big ol six fit in that tiny hole, and after alot of cussin', blood, and beer, i know more about my jeep than i could learn from a months reading, making it easier to maintain and repair. Hope this helps and good luck!

Both make for a very good swap and a extra parts XJ to have for a spare.
Price will vary as said from shop to shop and most of the time if you don't rush them the price may be a little lower if they don't have to drop other small jobs.
But that said the job could be done in a day if they had did one before and the engine was out of the other XJ.
