My first jeep had an issue like this. Mine had the bushings worn out. I'd check your transmount. You might be able to get it working if you adjust the linkage. I ended up just going with the direct link replacement style linkage on mine, the stock stuff is was over thought.

I am very seriously considering a replacement item that is advertised on ebay about $40, all steel, threaded rod adjustment, I think it just bolts on, and eliminates slop from those green poly bushes, which are very hard, but do wear. Mine does not always engage all selections easily and I want to overcome this.

The alternative would be replace the green bushes

a 10" adjustable spanner fits nicely over the tx case selector lever from below, so you can use that to click it all the way (and aid in the adjustment needed)...but be warned, the adjustment process is not straight forward with worn bushes, one of my rods also needed taking out, flatten in vice, file damaged surface etc

The linkage eliminators/upgrade work great. You get some movement of the lever with your drivetrain, but nothing serious, so long as your mounts are good. just keep them lubed up.

I've got the Azzy's Design Works linkage on mine, and it shifts like buddah.

I had the clutch replaced at a shop recently. Seemed like it was working after I replaced the Master/slave, but maybe not.

Looks like another thing to fix on my staycation.

I was just looking at Azzy's .... They are pretty pricey for a couple Heim joints and 2 tiny plates...

Amazon has the same thing for around $22.00

think I'm gonna give amazon a shot..... good reviews so it seems....

I got my Bargain amazon TC linkage installed today...
Also completely disassembled the shifter and greased everything up.

It now shifts like butter..... the truck never shifted this smooth when it was new.

the amazon unit is an exact copy of the Azzy's

One thing to keep in mind if you are installing any of these kits....

For some unknown reason "some" of the 5 speed XJ's have TJ shifters.... and the linkage arms move in a different direction than most XJ shifters..

That is why the shifter tab in the kit has a laser cut tab.... You knock the tab out slightly and it lets you rotate the part and allows it to work properly.

I was ready to send the kit back when I found a video from Azzy explaining the tab cut out.

Once that was sorted, everything works great. Highly recommend this mod.

stock linkage is way too over engineered.

Made in China, $12-40, I think they have free delivery, takes 12 days, shipped direct from Temu etc

or pay double for the same item imported by a local distributor, if lucky, takes 3-4 days, but most just order the damm thing direct from China, takes 12 days, despite them saying 3-4. You get a message saying your shipment is "delayed"

same shipper..good scam

we have free trade with China, I think there may be duty in US. Seeing as they probably reverse engineered a US designed product, you can see the objection

AWG

You just don't understand. If you get the $20 part from Amazon, shipped, Amazon is probably paying $10 for it at most. The C.R.A.P place that sells it to Amazon is making $ on it, so it probably costs about $5 or less to produce the thing, which includes 2 rod ends.... WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG AFTER A YEAR OR TWO!

This thought process also involves buying the cheapest possible sensors, after all you can always walk home and order another one.

Not sure how to understand your comment...

sensors are a WHOLE DIFFERENT kettle of fish from a simple linkage.

I would never buy cheap azz Chinese sensors
but transfer case linkage? hell yes...

now that I see how it's put together.... even if it does fail.... all I need to do is buy another Heim joint replacement with a 3/8-24 thread (either forward or reverse thread )

It's a very simple design... but it **** with your brain because of the complicated stock Jeep linkage....

once you see how easy it is...... you can fix it in your garage with 2 heim joints and threaded rod....

but if it's all put together delivered for 20 bucks?

Heck yes.

Much respect to Azzy for making his version... but to me It seems like a cash grab.

even if the chinese weren't knocking him off..... Azzy is WAY too expensive for what it is.

Most of our auto parts are made in China

(things may be slightly different to USA, but best check on the box i think! )

I hope that clears up any misunderstanding

Yeah, I knew you are in Oz/Australia. I was trying to be sarcastic about the use of cheap "Asian" parts. I could care less about how they get to where they're got
whew, this is a tough crowd.
