So, I have that terrible howling noise when I get up to speed. It starts around 30-35 (not specific because speedo is off), and gets louder as speed increases. I didn't have any play in the hub but thought it would be worth it to replace anyway (either way, I now have one absolute good hub, and another one that I can replace the bearing in, if necessary). The howling goes away when I switch lanes quickly (have to really turn the wheel to get it to stop), going to the left.
Anyway, I replaced the hub assembly, but the howling is still there. Any ideas? I did noticed that my UCA has some side to side play (a little) in it. Could that be the cause? This wolf is really annoying me, but it hides every time I go after it.

Have you checked anything else besides front end? Your description, while somewhat comical, leaves a little something to be desired.. You sure it's not the diff, TC or tranny? Fluid levels and conditions?
After retreading post I saw the part about changing lanes.. Could be hub assembly if everything else checks out.

That's just it... fluids are good. It's only 2WD so there is no front diff. And the noise disappears when I crank the wheel to the left. I'm lost. Am I thinking about it backwards? Could it be the right hub and the noise goes away when I turn to the left? Thinking not, but wouldn't say that I'm not wrong.
Yeah, I need to either get a new UCA bushing (left side) or just replace the whole shebang. Could that maybe be the culprit? I can grab it and shift it left to right from the axle side, without much force.

I doubt the bushing is the cause as well. But, it will be replaced before long. I tried the tire spin trick as well... with and without the wheels mounted; didn't give me any tell tell signs.

A few times, on newer gm's, the typical wheel bearing diag failed. I would turn left, noise would disappear, so there fore the left bearing is bad. But made me look dumb cause it turned out to be the right side. Seen it 6 times in 10 years, so far only on gm.
So it could be the other side. Put your old bearing in the other side if its not destroyed.
