So I recently got my XJ back up and running, went to use the wipers to clean the windshield and all I'm getting is a weird buzzing humming noise while on, yes all fuses are good, and yes the motor works(checked it with 12v directly to motor) Anybody have any ideas on what it could be; and the turn signals work and brights. it's a 96 Jeep Cherokee(XJ) Classic 4dr 4X4.

 

So the motor works but is it moving the wiper transmission linkage thereby moving the wipers?
If not on of the trans's arms may have detached or broke. Hopefully it's that cuz they're a dime a dozen at the JY.
So the humming you hear is the motor working then right? Only thing between the motor and blades is the trans.

 

no linkage is good, and wipers move when direct power is connected to motor; it's making that humming noise behind the dash but nothing is happening at the motor. i traced every wire and no breaks or shorts, checked continuity and it's good. this is why i'm baffled. i may just pull it and replaced the whole setup with JY parts, to include the turn signal/wiper control assembly if I can't figure out what's going on. it's a head knocker for sure

 

Is there a wiper speed control module? Mine was behind the driver side kick panel.
