Default wiper control question

This is strange. I have a wiper switch that confuses me. It has a vertical bar on it which is thin at the bottom and thick at the top. If you ask me, the thin section at the bottom is for short delay and thick for long delay. Right? When i turn the **** to the thick part of the bar, the wiper delay is very short and vice versa with the narrow part. Isn't this supposed to be the other way around? Thin for short delay, thick for long delay? That's how it was on my dodge dakota.

Thick (turn up) = Short delay
Thin (turn down) = Longer delay

Yeah i know that but i don't know why it's set like that. I was a red light and it was one of those moments when you sit there and ask yourself "why is it set like that?". Maybe thick means "more wipes per minute" and thin "less wipes per minute"....who knows.
