Winter prep checklist?
I may be wrong, but from my experience, draining and filling the transfer case typically gets out the majority of the fluid that's in there, therefore the fluid exchange is mostly fresh fluid.
This is unlike the trans, in which a drain and fill will typically only replace approximately 1/4 - 1/3 of the fluid ( How much comes out is debated on here. Some swear 4 qts come out, I only get 2, as do others, so whatever)

Ya you get a lot more when you jack it up. I drained my aw4 the other day down to the end, and then jacked up the front and got at least another quart out of it.

Belated THANKS!
Since getting all of the great input here, I've done my TC fluid (good call - less than 1 pint was in there), and did both differentials (cleaned covers, gears and refilled). I was pleased to find that my horrible "steering box leak" was actually the t'mission cooling line leaking right above the steering box and getting EVERYWHERE (thanks for the tip-off ccken!). Replacement parts (minus one yet) for both t'mission cooling lines have been secured - to be tackled this week.
I replaced my WP yesterday, although I stupidly missed chance to do a good block flush while it was out.
dam. After work today, new TStat and housing will go in and radiator/heater hoses will be replaced as well. I plan to take the radiator out in order to flush some water through it separately and I'll also check write-ups for flushing the heater core. I have a new fan clutch on hand but have had no luck removing the bolts from either the fan OR just the clutch part. Grr. Mine seems just fine, but I wanted to defer to the CF folk who instruct that it's essentially $30 worth of great "insurance." (fan blades are still nice and sharp too haha)
Fingers crossed - first roadtrip this weekend (only 500 mi RT over two days). Shall get to crackin' on the underside rust correction/protection and replacing my CCV grommet and elbow upon my return.
Thanks again for the winterizing advice!
