Default Windshield washer/wiper switch

OK guys my worst nightmare has come true. I need to replace one of the switches in the steering column. I've lost all washer operation and I've lost the int. function of my wipers.
I ripped the switch and full wiring harness all the way down to the connector under the dash out of a donor XJ in the local scrap yard. When I say ripped, I mean I destroyed that steering column getting the switch out though, I was very careful that I got the switch out fully intact.
Now, I need to gently and correctly take the clomn apart in my XJ to replace this switch. How do I do it? Does the steering wheel have to be pulled? or is there some way to get the column cover off that I am just not seeing? My XJ is a 91 if that makes a difference. HELP PLEASE!!

Will a regular old crows foot puller work for pulling the XJ steering wheel. Mine is old skool. No air bag or fancy steering wheel to deal with.
