I've gotten in my jeep a few times and the passenger side of the windshield is fogged up. The seal on the inside of the windshield is messed up so I suppose its letting air in. How would you fix it? Just lay some black silicone over it and smooth it out the best you could?

Yeah I was thinking about grabbing one of my plastic panel pry tools and trying to straighten it out, but I didnt want to mess it up more. I'll give it a shot though

Nope. Just nope.
The only correct solution is to have a glass shop remove and reinstall the windshield. There is NOTHING you can do from the inside that is going to correct that problem. The leak is OUTSIDE where you can't get to it. Globbing some stuff on the inside might keep it from coming all the way inside where you can see it, but it will still get in where it will cause your windshield frame to rust out. In other words, it would be like disconnecting your idiot light. Yeah, you won't see the light, so you think everything is fine, but the damage is now hidden so it can work behind the scenes.
Besides, that urethane is not just a water seal. It's structural.

SON OF A BI....!!!!
So you dont even think it was just somehow pressed in and it can just be rearranged? and there isn't any unseen issues?
Well I guess there IS an issue outside if its coming all the way into the cab and fogging my windshield...
On another note, I'm wondering if I have a vent issue as well. Maybe that messed up windshield piece isn't even the culprit. I dont know what the base issue is, but I do know I have some problems with the selector switch not making air go where I want it.... floor, bi-level, norm, heat, vent, etc.... maybe my vent is open over there but not the driver side?

Here is how I did this job...you mustorder a new windscreen rubber seal..this forms a continuous lip on both sides of the glass, that is then glued onto the pinchweld with poly, silicone or butyl.
There is a very high chance that pinchweld is now sufering some corrosion, due to moisture ingress, which may have been going on for some time,
This corrosion absolutely must be repaired, or you can throw away your XJ in a few years
I cut the screen out very carefully using thick electric guitar strings, slicing thru the silicone, and repaired all corrosion.
Someone had tried to use silicone from the outside to stop it...this will not work most of the time, but worsen the hidden problem
Once I had done all that, I rang the mobile winsdcreen installer that I trust and has done countless thousands, he came out and fitted the screen for about $80 cash.
He told me he could have got the seal of him cheaper than the OEM Ebay item I used, which was about $60

I just contacted SafeLite and they wont replace just the seal. They said they have to put in new glass to ensure there is a good seal and give a lifetime warranty... because they cant get all of the silicone off the old glass. Just sounds LAZY to me... Put in the elbow grease and clean that sheeiit off the old glass. Nothing a nice sharp straight razor cant handle...
Oh and the person I spoke with, Gina F. on live chat, was a total C-U-Next-Tuesday.... she wouldn't answer my questions or explain to me why they wouldnt just replace the seal. She just kept repeating "thats not a service we provide"..... "thats not a service we provide".... "thats not a service we provide".... And then she just ended the chat session with me. So I got back on and talked to Shawn who explained it ALL to me. Then I told him Gina F. was rude and tell her to go get bent. Hahaha... But yeah, sounds to me like just replacing the seal is a time waster and not a money maker for them... I bet they make a decent profit off of the new glass....

So seeing how I am clueless how a '96 and down works figure I would try and learn something.
Is there a rubber "gasket" under the windshield and trim on top?
Going over my '94 to '96 parts catalog and it is confusing.
All I really see is what I think is trim. 4 separate pieces?

I contacted a local shop and I believe they said $160 for just a new seal and I think $260 or $290 for new windshield and seal. SafeLite was comparable to the $260-$290 range.
I believe pre 96 is sealed in place and then has a rubber molding around the outside. My rubber molding is shrunken.

My insurance says it will cover a "repair", but not "replacement". Unfortunately my deductible is $500, so more than a windshield replacement costs. So if I can find a shop that will do the seal replacement, that may be considered a repair in some way, shape, or form... and it may be covered. I would hate to have to fork out nearly 3 hundo for a new windshield that I don't need just for a new seal. But then again, if its going to save me from possible major corrosion down the road....

Could that be your collision deductible.
Glass falls under your comprehensive I think.
Are they still separate when you have both.
I just have comprehensive so......
