I have a 96xj 2door and as long as I've owned it the windows rattle for a few seconds when you close the doors. I've seen others xj's that it didn't happen on. I know that my 96 is the last year of the "old style" and that the 97+xj's are more of a "comfort car". I like how I have a real truck, not like the girly new jk wranglers. But for anyone who has an "old style" xj, does this happen to you? I think it makes my xj seem weak. It just bothers me. Sorry I wrote so much for stupid ****.

 

I have a '96, the windows do not rattle. In fact nothing does as long as I remember to tighten the spare tire mount from time to time
What shape is that rubber window channel stuff in? How about the wiper strips at the bottom of the glass?

 

now that I think about it some more, I don't think it's the windows, but the rods for the door handle and the lock button. Both doors do it. Not while driving, but when you close the doors. It drives me insane

 

I'd take off the interior panel and look for a broken spot weld or misadjusted rod.

On my "comfort car" I had the window pop out of the rail, needed to bend the rail so it didn't happen again. Stopped the window rattle too.

My 91 does the same, i too think it is the linkage rods.....

 

I've had the door open before for another reason and I'm almost certain that's what it is. Maybe the others I've heard had power locks?

 

My 88 (pwr locks and windows) the rods rattle like a son of a gun. Even when driving...it drives me crazy... But I need to do dome work on all my doors anyways...all 4 window moters are broken
