Default Will a Pre-1997 XJ Door fit a later model?

Hi,

Can I put a 1994 XJ drivers door on my 2001 Anniversary XJ? I have read the posts and understand it can be quite an undertaking to remove the door but I am interested nonetheless as my door has a huge dent at the bottom and elsewhere, and a broken drivers lock barrel.

Thanks!
Benny

Search it. Common question. It's not a bolt in swap. The wiring is something else too.

The door hinge and wiring are different but it is the same dimensions.

My Dads 91 XJ has a 97+ rear pass. Bought it with it installed, wish i could tell you how hard the swap went. There are minor similarities in the fronts that i have noticed though. Wiring to door locks, window motor and speaker. Good luck to you sir!

Wrong, front and rear will work. The issue is the hinge and door striker. You'll need to relocate and use the donor doors striker and hinge to make work. Not a easy swap but can be made to work. The doors all have the same dimensions

Ok it seems too much work to warrant doing, I'll wait for a +97. I always search before posting but I must have used bad terms this time

Thanks for all your advice once again

Also, don't expect to use the 2001 door panel on the 1994 door, the innards are all different.

Wrong.

Someone asking if they can be swapped is not smart enough to do the wiring crossover in the event that you do swap them.

The guts of the doors are ENTIRELY different. You cannot use just the skin.

That means you cannot swap glass, trim, latches, window regulators, wiring, or swap and expect the proper door panels to fit.

Even putting the 97 mirrors on 96 and older requires trimming the window trim in order to get a flat mount to the door properly.

So no, I am entirely right. Doing hack job work to swap the wrong door on is the WRONG way to do things.

You're a special kinda stupid aren't you? He didn't ask if he can put 97'+ glass or electronics in a -96' doors, hes asking if a -96' ENTIRE doors will fit on a 2001 which is correct. Have you heard of 97'+ conversions on early models? Where guys add 97'+ fenders, doors, etc... On to early model xj and even MJ? Ya the reverse order is the exact same, heck most late model driver will use a early model door for half doors.
And you're really gonna say that if he swaps a door over he isn't smart enough how to splice the wiring to make it work? That's right there in my book makes you the biggest douche bag ever

I have done the conversions. Many times.

It is a fact that this is a terrible question.

A 97-01 door is very common, very plentiful.

And the 96 and earlier master switch is not only entirely different, it is incapable of operating everything on the same scale as a 97 up setup.

Since that is the case, and You also lose the power mirror switch, you are wholly incorrect on the validity of the swap.

I raised the points in the guts being different for point and purpose plain as day statement that you cannot do a quality job of crossing older front doors onto newer XJ's. They simply have structure and options that are not compatible. You would have to blend parts to make it work, and they cannot be mixed between doors, as I have clearly stated.
