Default Will a grand cherokee trans fit a cherokee?

both 4.0 aw4 np242 just wondering if the transmissions were interchangeable and if not what would I have to do. I am swapping the entire drivetrain

Only 93 grand cherokees used the aw4 after that it was the 42re and that tranny is garbage

Wow if you have a grand Cherokee with a 4.0 and aw4 they are pretty rare where I live since they only came in one year 93

What year grand and Cherokee?

ok well I kinda just bought it haha spur of the moment decision seeing as it was a great deal. will that mount the same in the cherokee without some welding or fabrication of any kind? and the transmission has just been replaced on the grand and mine has just gone out. see my dilemma?

42re is a crappy trans and the work to TRY to get it to work wouldnt be worth it. Should have done some homework, huh

I mean I can sell the trans and there are plenty of parts I can still take off of it. the engine is pristine as well so I am not mad about it. how about converting obdII to obdI? I have a plethora of engine parts. would it bee too big of a mess or what?
