why t-counterweight?

Default why t-counterweight?

Just picked up an XJ about a week ago.. doing some work here and
there.

Can anyone tell me why my transfer case would have a counter weight
attached to it? By the looks of it its at least 20# or so.

its a '98.. i think the t-case is NPG 231.

yes, vib damper. by why do some have them and some don't?
more importantly, why would mine have one?

Thats the millon dollar question..... What prompted chrysler to install vibration dampners on some and not others???? Maybe some transercases were inferior to others???? Someone should ask Chrysler!
Serious note I haven't heard why some do and some don't..
