I only hear a ticking sound. Maybe a sticky lifter?

I also see that you have a coil pack, therefore your XJ is a 2000 or 2001. Have you looked inside your valve cover recently?

Is the noise coming from this?

If so, it's normal. The evap purge solenoid is at the rear of the engine bay on the passenger side. It clicks. It clicks louder if you have a vacuum leak, but if it's not throwing a code, it's not leaking enough to worry about. Here's a video of one clicking:

If that's not what's clicking, you may have lifter or valve noise. You can figure out the general location of a noise by sticking a piece of hose up to your ear and moving the other end around the engine bay until it gets loud enough to pinpoint the source. If it's coming from inside the engine, you can get a mechanic's stethoscope at Harbor Freight for $4 to figure out the source.
