Default Whirling noise from about 45 to 55 mph

Hey Guys,

Back again with another question for the experts...

Like the title states, I have a whirling/howling noise from about 45 to 55 mph. It sounds like its coming from the front end. It's most pronounced and obvious between 48 and 52 mph and then subsides and is pretty quiet, but is still there. If I hit a decent bump or dip at 48 to 52 it seems to go away for that split second. The weird part is, its kinda intermittent and happens early on in my drives but seems to go away or at least dissipates the longer I've driven. It's really hard to wrap my head around because it's the most pronounced for those couple mph.

I do, however, know that I need new brakes as they started squeaking and have a grindy feel when I stop. Any chance this has anything to do with it? I've done the side to side to see if the hubs make any noise, and no change in sound there. Any ideas?

This has been happening for a while, and actually happened on my old XJ, but I was too broke with my old XJ to look into it.

97' Sport, 4.0L, AW4, NP231, 70k miles.

I have greased the front DS before, but I actually have that out of the jeep right now. So I know it doesn't have anything to do with that.

I know it's difficult for anyone to know if they aren't driving it, but I thought maybe I'd get some more suggestions on things to check.

Hey Guys,

Just noticed I'm getting a clunk when I let off the gas. Noticed it more at lower speeds and more so if I'm get on the gas hard then let of real quick. Think these two issues could be connected? I've been getting my search on, and I'm leaning towards ujoints, or control arm bushings? Hoping that it's something simple, but I haven't been able to get underneath and check. Been working a bunch of hours this week.

Question.... since I'm gonna be learning for a while... If the bushings in the control arms are good, should there be even the littlest bit of play? I did grab a hold of them this past weekend and tried twisting, and there is a tiny bit of play in both.
