Is there any fur in there? I found my neighbor's cat under the hood because I heard a "funny" noise. It was too late for the cat but the engine bay cleaned-up real easy!

...but seriously though, use a long extension (the one from your ratchet set) like a stethoscope - or use a stethoscope if you have one - with the engine idling, if you carefully place the tool against each device (mind that fan and stuff) and hold it against your earbone then you should be able to determine which item is the source of the noise.

thats just wrong. haha. but no it is a high pitched kind of whine. but it only happens at idle. goes away once i hit the gas.

Yeah, really? At idle only? Is it more of a whistle - like maybe a vacuum leak?

yeah i did a alternator relocation and had to replace the belt. its definitely not a slipping belt. i know the difference between a slipping belt and whatever else is wrong with my motor. haha.

Next guess: Pulley alignment may be off by a RCH. Run it for a few days to see if it wears-in. The whining noise may go away. A spritz of belt dressing could do the trick also but do wait a couple days before that.

no this whine is something that started a while back and hasnt gone away. it doesnt do it all the time though. only every once in a while. i dont drive it that often but its something that gets annoying. so idk. im thinking maybe its a water pump actually.
