hello,
my horn is out but works when i lock from key button. also getting PO505 coming on and off. when on truck idles high and wants to come down slower than normal. i noticed these issues at the same time.
had similar problems with IAC in the past that led to changing the clock spring as well as swapping PCM for used un programmed replacement from same year truck, 2001 xj. everything was fine for a year. no CEL for that time. My question is what should i check first. Could not getting the replacement pcm programmed have caused an issue? Is there a way to check the clock spring without replacing? I have swapped the IAC with another i had from last go around with these issues and no change. thats all so far.
Any experienced advice appreciated.
thanks,
mark

So I'm figuring its another bad clock spring. i really have no other ideas. anyone have a clue what might cause one to go out? my suspicion with the last was a wind shield leak.

I have had to replace a few clock springs. After taking one apart, I see they will all fail eventually. There is a ribbon cable inside the clockspring. It is folded back over itself at a 45 degree angle. It is a hard crease and eventually the wires will break and you will get intermittent connection. I was able to take one apart and resolder the wires inside. that lasted about a year and then just got a new one. I just had to replace mine (Airbag went off). I'll take it aparat and post a pic.
