where should voltmeter read?
My wife mainly drives the 94 Cherokee, but I noticed the voltmeter ran just under 14. Does this indicate charging problems, or is it in the normal range? Any input is appreciated.

Are you looking at the factory gauge?
Its incredibly inaccurate. Its just a "guess" basically.
If you want to know the true reading, you'll have to use a multimeter or an aftermarket gauge.

Sounds about normal...it will vary slightly depending on engine speed, state of battery charge, electrical load, and temperature. It is not a precision instrument. With a multimeter, you should read between about 13.5 to 14.5 volts at the battery terminals at idle.
