I am a poor broke college student that failed miserably at trying to build an engine. Overheated the second time I drove it when it cooled I had oil in the radiator and coolent in the oil. As well as a rear main seal leak, so I need to start over. Well I need this jeep to last me at least the next 4 years hopefully 7. So I want to buy all new parts as cheaply as possible and pay someone that knows what they're doing to put it together. But I can't afford a $1300 crate motor. If anyone in MI wants to make some money in there spare time I am not in a huge rush if some wants to give me a price on the labor. And if anyone knows where to get some cheap parts I would love to know.
Does the crank from an 87 fit in a 94? Could I use the rods from the 87 setup? My setup that failed was an 87 block with a 94 head. Now I want to rebuild the 94 block. But the 94 had thrown a rod so I don't have the 94 crank or rods.

The cheapest route would be to find a used engine and freshen it up with new rings, bearings, seals, and gaskets. Or just drop it in if you found a nice low mileage clean engine.

Yeah, I agree on finding another motor and going through it as necessary. By the time you buy decent parts, visit the machine shop and such, you're at or over the cost of a workable salvage motor.
