When to replace an engine
Hey guys, just recently replaced the factory 4.0 in my cherokee with a reman ATK. The only reason I replaced it is because there was coolant in the oil. I assume either the head had cracked or had lifted. The engine had 198,000 on it but ran just fine. Just kind of second guessing myself on whether this was the right thing to do. Sometimes think I should have just replaced the head, especially after reading about how many miles some of you guys are getting out of these engines. What do you guys think?

No need to second-guess your decision. With coolant in the oil for who knows how long, the bearings and other things inside were probably wiped.
The engine was tired and needed to be replaced to make the vehicle reliable.

dont beat yourself up if you couldnt have afforded it you wouldnt have done it. it rteally depends on how long it ran in that condition there are some things you could have had tested to confirm how deep the damage was but its all moot now. just enjoy the rig ang have a blast
