This 97' Cherokee is my son's first vehicle, and he's wanting to make it look nice. He hates the basket-weave wheels that are on it, and wants to put some 5-spoke jeep wheels on it. Which ones will fit?

I put cragar 'soft-8's' on mine. Looks nice, seems to be popular. I went black, looks cool, easy to keeps clean{ish.}
I, and many jeepers also went with a touch of "off-set". Basically, makes the rims and tires stick out more.
That offers a cooler look, and a little wider wheel-base.
Downside, with any offset, and beefier tires, your ride gets muddier/dirtier quicker.
Upside, mud gives street cred.
Welcome to the addiction.

Almost all of them from any:
YJ (Wrangler 87-95)
XJ (Cherokee 84-01)
TJ (Wrangler 97-06)
LJ (Wrangler Unlimited 04-06)
MJ (Comanche 87-91)
ZJ (Grand Cherokee 93-98)
KJ (Liberty 02-07) (some of them - certain wheels have too much backspacing, in that the tires don't stick out far enough)
Early Ford Explorers
Ford Rangers
Mazda B-series (identical to Rangers)
That should give you at least a dozen million donor vehicles.
The stock rim on most XJs is 15" diameter, 7" wide, 5.75" backspacing, bolt pattern 5 on 4.5". There are a few rims in the above list which are actually 16" diameter, of course you'd need new tires to fit them. Some rims are 8" wide which is not an issue, as long as the backspacing isn't larger than 5.75". Less backspacing will make the tire stick out further.
Welcome to the site, I hope your son enjoys his new XJ!
