Wheel spacers

Sorry I'm new and had to ask this. What are wheel spacers? And why would I have to use them?

Wheel spacers are used in between hub and rim. Used to move rim outward. Makes up for (lack of) backspacing on certain rim styles. (Also adds stability) You don't have to use them, unless your having rubbing issues because bigger than stock tires. Mounted on stock rims. Oh ya, My little brother lives in Charlevoix, Mi. Beautiful area
