What's your MPG?
My 96 XJ 4x4 is currently getting ~13.5 MPG on average in Los Angeles. Just wondering: Is this consistent with other city drivers? Does anyone have pointers on squeezing a few more miles out of each tank?
I also have a '96. 12-13 around town, 17-19 hwy. If you are driving in LA traffic 13 sounds about right. I'll leave it to others to offer suggestions as to improving that, I've never found anything that made a substantial difference. I just consider it the cost of driving a tank.
I've got a '96 also. Considering the rural roads I run around here I do very good at around 16mpg. On the highway I've gotten as much as 21mpg (don't do much highway driving though). When I bought this XJ from the original owner it had 98,000 mi. Was well maintained but only got 13mpg. It ran great but no gas mileage. Pulled the plugs and found out they were the originals. Replaced them with Bosch Platinum 4's and a set of wires and the mpg increased. My point is simply to make sure your vehicle is kept in tune the best it can be.

On my first full tank of gas I got an average 16.7! I thought this was great... much more than I was expecting.
I've not done a tune up yet either. Just an oil change and a new air filter.
Forgot...29" tires, no lift.
