2. why would it go into the engine bay anyways? unless I was driving around with busted hoses, which im not.
theres only two places for the blowby to go, the airbox, or the intake manifold.

pull the small hard line off and try to blow thru it. if you cant, its clogged and will need to be replaced. if you have oil in the airbox, I bet its clogged.

Hate to hijack, but I have the same issue -- blowby in the air box (on a 91 w/ 4.0 -- slightly different CCV setup, I think). But, I checked the elbow and the line to the intake manifold from the rear of the valve cover, and they are clear -- a little oily, but not blocked by any means. Any idea what else could be causing this? Is it possible the valve on the manifold itself is blocked (the one the hose from the VC attaches to)? How easy is that to get out, if so?
One other oddity is that about the time the blowby showed up, I started getting rough idle, and rough acceleration, but only in the range of maybe 900-1300 RPM, and only when it's warm outside -- above maybe 60-70° or so. When I get above that range, it smooths out. The roughness is really noticeable at the exhaust, not so much at the engine, noise-wise, but leads to a jerk with every "miss" when accelerating.
I thought about starting by replacing plugs, wires, cap & rotor (the cheap stuff), but since it's so temperature dependent, I figured it must either be some sensor or an air/fuel problem. My temperature gauge isn't showing anything unusual, so I wasn't suspecting the coolant temp sensor.
Help!

When I said soft I ment soft, the PO had some kind of rubber tube attached to mine before I replaced it. I am not talking fuel line like material either. Think consistancy of a natural rubber tube, not the black carbonized stuff that fuel or vacuum line is made from but the yellow/orange rubber, you can squish it really easy, this is what you want to stay away from.

The rear CCV elbow is a special kind, as it has just a small orifice. Replace the grommets and elbows and clean up those lines.

as said clean that back vacuum line and the valve.
I ran that front breather thru going off the other side and down past the engine with a little breather filter so that hot oily air inst going into my intake. drips a lil oil.
common thing to do on tuners, its just for emissions.
