What's better, a good header or 01 intake manifold?

unless you plan on doing both at the same time, you may as well wait on the exhaust mods. it wont help you any by doing the header first and the intake later. by that i mean you wont gain a little here and there, the engine is designed the operate on a specific amount of back pressure. by changing the exhaust, you are change the perameters of the design. those guy that add MSD ignitions or CAI arent gaining anything. the computer determines injections and timing based on ambient air temp and load. unless you are going full mod, JMO its a waist of time and $$$$

well if you have anything older than a 2000 and your upgrading the exhaust you should install the bigger manifold. it will help the performance alot

mid-99 and newer heads SUCK.

part of the reason they even improved the intake design was that they made the exhaust ports smaller. they did this to come up with hp improvement to cover the emissions restrictions that were put on them in that year.

yeah the heads arent as good. they tend to crack that being said i agree that it needs to be done at the same time as the exhaust.

Does anyone know if the newer intake manifold will fit with old style exhaust manifold without cutting and grinding on manifolds?

thing that really strikes me in that article is that the head was ported/polished and also beifited from larger valves.
Do not expect such large gains on a stock headed motor.
Additionally the motor already has header and I can only assume full exhaust.
As such, if running stock head and stock exhaust, don't expect much if anything regarding power gains with the intake.

I would agree to do both at the same time, however if only doing one now and one on down the road I would go with a good long tube header for the increase in low end power and, well... sound.
It's pretty accepted and proven that a large volume intake would hurt performance on a stock headed vehicle. Volume is good if you can use it, if the head will not support the volume, all you've done with the intake is hurt velocity... thus a drop in cylinder filling ability... and thus less hp/tq.

when i did my 99+ intake manifold and ported TB i noticed a nice difference..all through the RPM's...when i did the header..i noticed nothing.

Men tend to be visual in how they learn and relate to things. Need proof?

I had no idea what his name was without looking, but I instantly knew who you were talking about when you wrote that! I got a good laugh out of it, thanks!

So I am getting ready to install borla header and intake manifold, I can see where #5 is going to take a bit of work. Question is I have a 1993 and I just replaced power steering pump, I know I need the brackets from a later model but am I going to have to buy a later model power steering pump as well?
