That was what we did, just with the engine out. We hosed everything dirty down with Simple Green until we ran out, then used Greased Lightning. Let it sit for a bit, then powerwashed it. Worked pretty well.
Yep, just use a bucket of warm soapy water, then spray with a mild degreaser like Simple green or something like it, then use a sponge to wipe it all clean. then simply hose it off lightly. Do this on a regular basis and your motor will stay new looking. The harsh oven cleaners and such actually take the color out of the black plastic. Stay away from that stuff.

A buddy of mine used to work at a car detailing shop and they used to let the car run when they cleaned the motors. That is how I did mine like a week or so ago.

Don't know if you've cleaned that engine yet, but I highly recommend engine bright foam degreaser. Just spray it on, let it sit 15 min, then rinse it with a hose. I was blown away at how well that stuff works. I do it every 3 months or so now cause I like my engine looking clean.

Well you guys will just **** hearing what I have used several times to clean the many jeep I have owned over the past 20 years. Kerosene in a spray bottle
. I warm the engine shut it off and spray the entire engine compartment. You see a bit of steam from the exaust, but never had an engine fire. My uncle introduced my to this method. I thought he was crazy, but a lot of buddys in the hills of PA used this method. Heat alone does not ignite Kerosene, you need a flame to ignite it. I just use the garden hose to rinse off the kerosene after 5 to 10 minutes and all the grease and grime is removed easily. Age must be setting in since now I just warm up the engine and spray it down with a can of Gunk Engine Cleaner foam.

Not really, spray the foam cleaner over every inch of the engine compartment. The battery is sealed and water will not do any damage. The alternater will take being sprayed with water, thing about it, in heavy rain the water blows though the radiator all over the alternater. Sometimes you have to wait up to 30 minutes for electrical components to dry out before the vehicle will start. I have had this happen to me twice after hosing the engine off. I just wait and my jeep starts fine.
