So, I have a '95 Sport/auto/2WD... By the end of the year, I may be able to get my hands on an '01 Sport/auto/4WD; this one has minor front end damage... header panel, hood and grill (backed another vehicle in to it with a bike rack and bike on it, so there is no frame damage). It would be pretty simple to fix, but I am also considering, just getting the newer Jeep and stripping parts to go on the older one. I definitely like the newer Cherokees, but I'm keen to the older style w/ the newer stuff. What would you do? I also considered stripping the newer one but rebuilding it as a toy. And the older one is, no doubt, a daily street-able driver.

How many miles on both?
I'd keep your current 95 no matter what. I don't see why you'd ever want to throw something away that's in fine running condition for something that is broken. Unless it's THAT spectacular, which it doesn't sound to be.
I'd say pick up the 01 and make it a strictly offroad toy

The '95 is hitting 155K; according to the speedo that has white fingerprints all over the cluster, around the tripometer.
the '01 has 175K... on 2nd owner and well maintained; minus the fact that the front had recently been smudged.

Don't waste your money, 95 is the last year of obd1, with obd2 you can't modify that engine at all without computer modification/replacement, it has a low pinion d30 up front ( garbage ). The later engines are prone to shorter lives than their predecessors. The only part I would even take a second look at on the later model is its intake manifold. And your insurance is a lot higher for the same damn vehicle. I swapped my 89 to a 95 and have had nothing but issues. The older the better in my opinion. Not to mention with those damaged body panels it will be a pita to find replacements, far fewer in a jy than older models.
