First one was a junk yard trans so I don't know the milage. It had atf 4 in it when I got it tho. 2nd one is my daily driver 172,000.

I saw no one trying to encourage anyone to use atf 4, I was just stating my experience with using atf4 in a aw4.

Toyota and Volvo have always specified D/M type fluid. Chrysler switched to their own in-house stuff once the warranty period ended. Hmmmmmm. Seems legit.

Any Dexron III/Mercon/JWS 3309 fluid will work. I believe there's some issue with one of the newer spec Dexrons.

Not wanting to start a new thread for this, but I think I found an ATF that seems to meet this almost exactly. They call it "Multi-Vehicle ATF" but the applications listed don't seem to be more than a stone's throw away from Dex III. Applications include Mercon V, Mercon, Dexron III, JASO 1A, Allison C-4 and Aisin JWS 3309. Been running ATF+4 in mine for years, but this looks like it could be good stuff for my upcoming fluid change.
