Default What tire options for a 87 XJ Wagoneer ?

Hi,

I have been reading several old threads and don't get precisely the answer I am looking for.

I have a 87 XJ (Wagoneer) and the vibration I am chasing on the rear might come from the tires. So time to change them and get even closer to the stock look with white wall tires...

Here are my questions :

- 215/75R15 is what is currently on the car, but it is a bit small, isn't it? Are 225/75R15 a good idea ? 225/70R15 ? 235/75R15 ? Look will be better, but what about handling ? Noise ? MPG ? Confort ? car height ? Who has an experience to share ? The car has a 1,5" lift. My usage is 99% on the road and highway (130KM/H in France ).

- I consider buying these (chinese ?) tires : Maxxis MA-1 White Wall Any feedback ? Any other option ? Vitour R1

https://www.allopneus.com/VITOUR-R1-...0-h-84883.html

I want to avoid a bad choice, making the car uncomfortable, underpowered, handling bad, too noisy, too fuel hungry, etc..

Ralph

This is what the car looks like today

I've got 235/75r15 and I have no problems with them, and they'd look even better with your lift. 225/70r15 may give a more stock look and be easier to find white walls in. I'd definitely rule out 215s with your lift.

Ditto... I've currently got 235s on my 2" lift and look good and no issues with rubbing anywhere. You usually don't start running into fitment problems until you try to stuff 31s on a stock height XJ.

So no issue with size and better look

maybe 225/70R15 will add a beefier look without changing too much the look. Or 225/75. Both exist. I don’t want a big foot look. Just a tad more muscular look

any drawback ? for a 130km/h highway use.

any recommandation on whitewall tires ?

sorry for all the questions. But I’ll post good before/after photos for the community if others hesitate on the same question.

I'd go with 235/75/15s.

Would you post some pictures of your cars mentioning tire size and lift ?
that would make a good guide for size choice.

If I read properly this chart, the best choice is 235/70R15 to look stock.
or is t better looking to take 225/75 or 235/75

A stock XJ can fit a 235/75/15 tire no problem.

I ordered 225/75R15 white walls

Tires will be 1,5cm higher.
But this should be ok with my moderate lift.
I'll post before/after pictures.

Well, I though I had 215 tires, but they were 205....
I understand why they were looking a bit small..

I took Maxxis MA-1

According to the guy who installed them they are not the good size for the rims. Too large (225/75R15)

Strange. Don't you have that size on som of your XJs

I have 235/75/R15 on my stock 15x7 wheels. Its not ideal because the tire is so much wider than the wheel which allows the tire to "roll" side to side I believe, someone can correct me. I'm pretty sure you'll be completely fine, he's just trying to complicate things

The recommended wheel (rim) width for 235/75-15 tires is 6" - 7", so no, the stock wheel isn't too narrow.
