What is the "technical" name for rear hatch's part that commonly "sticks"?
So, my rear latch has stuck for as long as I've had the Jeep. I could just open it at the right angle and get it every time. Well, that stopped working. I've read the threads here where people fix them with zip ties and whatnot. Is there an aftermarket replacement for this part? If so, what is it called? I'd really like to just replace all the faulty parts with new ones and then maybe repair that down the line.
I'm sure there is some more "technical" OEM term that will make searching for this possible. Hoping someone here can provide me with that.
Is there a website out there where I could discover the names of these parts myself? That would be great. Someone told me of one a while back, but I can't find it again.
Which part? The rod, or the clip that holds it up? My parts catalog (97-98) doesnt show the clip. Just the rod. The clip appears to be part of the latch itself and i dont know how to remove it (the clip) as mine still works.
I have seen images of a Grand Cherokee that use a plastic clip that completely surrounds the rod. Dont know if its the same part #, but it looks like this thing.
. Never did this myself, but found an image of that clip being used. There is another showing the same rod setup, but with washers and a nut to hold the rod in place, here > https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/installing-interior-hatch-release-your-xj-240502/
Another option, which i have yet to see anyone do, is modify the rod and the arm the clip fits into to use one of those clips at the bottom of the rod (the green clip). And keep the moving parts lubed. Its no different than a side door. Grease collects dirt, dries out, and parts bind.
