Default what the TC?

so i am pretty confused on this transfer case. i want an sye however im not sure what tc i have. my buddy says np242J but from what i have read does that mean that i should have the "part time" "full time" options on my 4wd shifter. i have 2wd, 4wh and 4wL.
so if it is a 242 how can i tell and will the 231 sye kit work for it? ive only found hack and taps for 242.
it is a 2000 with the boot on the D/S for a little more info and the TC has no legible markings really.

There is a round tag about the size of a silver dollar on the front of the case and it will tell you what it is.
