Seeing as this is my second Jeep, I ought to know what this is for ...Of course the last Jeep wasn't right hand drive, And I didnt need to pull the carpets on that one..So I didnt even know it was there.
I'm guessing it had something to do with the assembly process ?

I 'think' that black box in the same pic goes there. Dead pedal, maybe? Seen it before, but never gave it much thought.

Yes, that box goes over it. I took it off to remove carpet....Just seems like overkill for a foot rest... Thanks for the pic

 

that is actually just a foot rest for lack of a better term many automatic cars have that as a place to rest your foot instead of on the brake if I'm not mistaken
