I was replacing the rear wiper motor on my 2000 Jeep XJ and noticed this plug just hanging there. I couldn’t find anywhere it plugged in. Does anyone know what it’s for?

 

Do you have power door locks? Possibly the tailgate lock solenoid?

 

No, everything is manual.

 

I am looking at the wiring harness for the hatch in my '00 parts catalog and it looks like there is only one.
No matter what options you might or might not have.
Thinking Saudade might be right and the reason that you did not find it hooked up to it is because of that.

According to the wiring diagram I have for my 98, that is definitely the power lock motor.
