The original vacuum tube there included an orifice, a necked-down area to meter the amount of suction applied to the valve cover. For "proper" function and least amount of oil leakage, replacing to factory would save alot of stress. The original elbow that twisted in with a quarter turn has been replaced by Chrysler to a push in grommet with an elbow and vacuum tube that pushes into it. It is available from NAPA, Balkamp part number 7151365 ($8.69 at my store) in this new configuration which includes the vacuum tube out to the nipple on the intake manifold. Last I checked, it was about $14.00 from Chrysler. I had some experience with modifying breather system on an old Chevy straight 6, and in the end, the factory layout was best - any other modifications gave me oil smears and leaks that I didn't have before. Just my 2 cents. Russ

I tried Napa, must of got the wrong person that day, they told me to go to Jeep and get one, The Valve cover came with new grommets, I've got about 500 miles on my rebuilt motor with no problems. The part number you show is it for the front or rear? I would like a lower profile elbow for the front one, the way it was stock.

i need to replace both from and rear on mine but no one seems to have it and i refuse to go to the crooked dealer here local

I got the same thing when I went to look for them, I found the Co on-line who makes them:

This number is for the rear connection. I believe it was listed for 87-90, but was indeed same piece on my 91.Here is a link to the piece in the NAPA Online listing - http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?R=BK_7151365_0066873882
When I first saw it, I realized it looked nothing like mine - specifically the adapter to the elbow was broken on my XJ, so I ordered one from Chrysler - and surprise! the new number update is exactly like mine. Well somewhat - the vacuum tube was shaped to go to a nipple on the front of the intake, and mine is at rear of throttle body, so a little snip and small "jumper" of vacuum tubing and it fits perfectly!
