Default What does the Cherokee like best in terms of gear oil?

I am going to be swapping out the gear fluids in the Jeep because I am not too happy with it.

I initially put in the cheapo valvoline brand with a friction modifier from autozone (I have lsd).

I have the stock Dana 35 rear axles, not sure what I have in the front maybe the 8.25 but I could be wrong. Anyway, I am looking for a gear oil that will mainly quiet down the chattering noise, and give me optimal performance off road.

I have been doing some research and apparently a lot of the jeeps respond well to redline gear oil. I can get a case of 4 for about 45 bucks shipped to my door.

Also, I noticed that some gear oils have the friction modifier already added in it, is it okay to use just the gear oils to satisfy the quench for the friction modifier or should I go to the stealership and grab a bottle for 10 bucks?

I know they are supposed to take like 4 oz or something like that.

Thanks

you don't need the friction modifier unless you have LSD. don't waste your money.

even if you have limited slip in the rear, you won't in the front.

just use regular 75 or 80w90 and add friction modifier in the rear axle IF you have LSD.

every time you put the axles under water they are suppose to have the fluid changed...that is if you dont run the breathers up higher......so if it isnt gonna be a offroad jeep royal purple is nice........

I ordered some redline 75w140 this time around. I do have lsd in the rear (as made obvious by the tag on the differential cover and in the glovebox there's a sticker that says I have lsd).

NOW my question is, would it still be necessary to get the friction modifier or will the stuff I bought contain sufficient amounts of it? Here is exactly what I ordered.

Amazon.com: Red Line 75W140 Synthetic Gear Oil (1 Qt.): Automotive Amazon.com: Red Line 75W140 Synthetic Gear Oil (1 Qt.): Automotive

If I have to get the friction modifier, then does it make a difference as to which one I get? Like if I went to the dodge dealership and got one from there? Or does it have to be solely jeep's friction modifier.
