Default What do I need to consider when lifting?

Hey All,

I am going to be lifting my XJ pretty soon. I have decided to go 6.5 suspension. If I go with 33" tires, what sort of things do I need to consider apart from the suspension kit (including new driveshaft, t-case drop, long arms, SYE, etc...).

Like, I see a lot of people swapping their axles for larger ones (have the stock Danas) and/or getting a new set of gears (4.56, 4.88...). When I lift my XJ and throw on the bigger tires, do I need to get new axles and/or gears as well? How critical is it?

Whatever you guys could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Josh

In addition to the Suspension components:
Longer brake lines (front and rear).
Trackbar/draglink
Swaybar disconnects
Gears (Assuming your going to a larger tire)
Speedo-gear
SYE
Driveshaft
Bumpstops

Okay. This is what I originally planned on getting anyway (what the lift includes): Lifted coil springs,
upper and lower adjustable control arms,
drop pitman arm,
t-case drop kit
,
adjustable track bar,
brake line relocating brackets
,
sway-bar disconnects
,
Lifted leaf springs,
lift shackles,
u-bolts,
SYE,
new driveshaft,
control arm drop kit.

So, because I am going to a larger tire size, I need to get different gears? How do I know what gears to get?

First off, I absolutely hate t-case drops. Kinda defeats part of the reason for lifting a rig (Articulation and Clearance). Stick with an SYE if at all possible.

Gear size will depend on tire size.
