Default What do I all need to swap Chrysler 8-1/4 rear end into my 90 cherokee

Just as the title says. I searched around but could not find the exact list of parts I need to swap a 8-1/4 rear end instead of my Dana 35. I found one for 150 bucks with a locker in it. I know for sure I will need new, larger u-bolts but what else will I need? Different drive shaft? Are rear brake parts swappable from Dana 35 to the Chrysler rear end?

Your Drive Shaft will be fine. It bolts onto the new axle with the same type of clasps.

You will need the new top plate and U-bolts if you can get it since the axle housing is bigger.

Other then that, nothing else. Its a very simple install. The only issue I had was the darn e-brake cables and I eventually gave up on them.

Good luck and great find!

i just swaped a 8.25 for my dana 35.. youll need Ubolts. i used the same top plate as before. i didnt have to cut or mod mine but evey xj is diffrent. at 6.5" lift and an ax-15 i didnt have to change driveshafts. i used a ujoint conversion i got at napa. useing my stock driveshaft actualy pushed the slipyoke foward so the splines arnt showing anymore.

Wrong.
You'll need the shaft from the donor rig. The D35 shaft is not the correct length. The 8.25 is longer (front to rear) than the D35.

Driveshaft
U-Bolts
U-bolt plates
e-brake cables

By how much? I ran one the Drive Shaft from my D35 for years after it died and I swapped in my Chrysler 8.25.

By Googling it, from what I see D35 is an inch shorter then C8.25. So yes, get one if you can.

U-joint conversion? They use the same joint. The difference is the length of the driveshaft.

Allusion, posted about some u-joint conversion. Wondering if its cheaper than a driveshaft.

Pry shoes, drums, and a hardware kit for both sides.
