Default What brand gaskets are recommended?

99 Cherokee 4.0L. 94k miles. 4wd.

Recently driving home i busted my lower radiator hose and lost all my fluids. I didn't realize immediately and drove a few miles at most before I realized something was wrong. I never lost oil pressure and I have no idea how hot it got because the fluid was below the temp sending unit. When I pulled over it died immediately after I let off the throttle. It refused to restart. Had AAA tow me home. The next day I replaced the hose filled the rad up with water and it started up, but with a really rough idle. I pulled the rad cap off and I had exhaust coming out. No coolant in oil or vice versa. I figure I have a blown HG. Got it partially torn down now.

My question is, are there recommended gaskets to use for the head and manifolds? The valve cover gasket looks reuseable to me, it's the rubber kind with metal in it. I would appreciate any experience or suggestions. Going to be getting parts together here soon.

Default Check for cracked cylinder head

The 1999-2000 4.0 is notorious for cracking the cylinder head when it gets overheated. Check all the posts regarding this and learn how check for this well documented problem. My 2000 XJ had a bad crack and needed replacing.

Another vote for a set of Fel-Pro's. Have always used them and have zero complaints.
