Default What backspace?

If you're running 32" or 33" tires, what backspace are you using on your rims. Pictures would be cool if you've got them.

It's going to be a matter of preference as to how you want it to look. I had 33s on 15x8 rims with 4.5 backspacing and the tire rubbed the lower control arms. I am currently sitting on a different set of 33s on 15x10 rims with 3.75 backspacing and can't wait to get rid of them. They look mean as hell sticking out of the wheel well but are the reason my Jeep is on jackstands with the entire steering system damaged. I will be going back to 15x8 rims with 4 inch back spacing.

I haven't bought tires yet. I want either 32" or 33" tires. I have trimmed fenders and a 3" lift. I'm trying to decide on the rim/tire combo I want to run. The black D style steel wheels come in 3.75 BS or 4.5 BS.

32's would be 11.5" wide and 33's would be 12.5" wide
the rims will be 15x8

Look into the Cragar Soft 8s to see what backspacing they are offered with.

I'm looking to get the same lift and go for the 32's on soft 8's. From my searches it seems 15x8 4inch bs is the norm. Is this going to be your DD?

I have a TJ. I'm building the XJ as a DD for my son who's deployed in the Army. I'm trying to build it right and do my research.

how could 1/4 inch of difference make a difference between ruining your steering system and not ruining it?

I would recommend the 15x8 Cragar Soft 8s with the 4 inch backspacing. It is generally the best all around setup for a 33x12.50. When I do get around to buying new rims it will be this style.

its not just 1/4th of an inch its an inch an 1/4th The smallest changes can effect the geometry of your front end or vehicle for that matter.

It is more the rim width than the 1/4 inch backspacing difference. The tires stuck out so far that when I got stuck in this rut the axle was forced over to the drivers side. Thus bending the drag link, tie rod end on the track bar, fractured the pitman arm, rolled the tire off of the bead, and bent and twisted the lower control arm mounts on the axle. Plus the 8 inch wide rim will hold the bead much better than the 10 ich rim.

In this pic you can see how far the axle is pushed over.
