hey, been having issues with my AW4 dropping out of OD into 3rd, sometimes second. If you shut it off and restart it resolves the issue but basically it happens again within 10 minutes or 10 days.
First there are others and I think we all have a 96 with the AW4 trans.
Second between the group of us, we have replaced shift solenoids, TCU, TPS, checked wiring, etc.

Because I'm getting sick of troubleshooting it, I have found a few transmissions between 2-500$, some rebuilt, one with 81K on it, etc. Just wondering which years are compatible with a 1996 4.0L because I'm leaning towards just swapping it out. Sounds like a fairly easy job, meaning maybe a day if I can get a buddy or two to help.
Any thoughts or advice or anything would be much appreciated.

Anything 91-96 should be an easy swap.

 

Saw some stuff about mid 96 and up, do I need to account for that at all? I'm not sure what month mine is or when these changes took place, looks like something about the speed sensors or wiring harness...
