Talking Wet Passenger Floor (work around)

It started when I began parking overnight in my driveway. It rains and the passenger side floor of my 98 Cherokee Limited is soaked, I mean really wet. There are no holes in the floor, nothing wrong with seals or windows, not the AC condenser drain. Couldn't figure it out then finally I stumbled onto why although I don't have a fix yet.

I had always parked on the level street but now I'm parking it in the driveway nose facing uphill. When I back the car into the driveway with the front facing DOWNHILL no more problem, dry as a bone in the fiercest rainstorm.

Seems to me with the nose facing uphill water finds it way into the what I think is the heater/blower intake on the passanger side firewall.

Easy workaround that may work for someone else as I've seen this problem posted before.

I had the same problem. I have a 96 and what happens is the foam insulator around the cold air intake becomes decayed and water leaks inside through the cowl. I took my windsheild wipers off the plastic part under the nipples of the wipers and on the passenger side of the cowl cut a large enough whole to fit ur hand through and i used RTV and put it around the cold air intake. I cut a square hole with a die grinder and welded thin strips of metal to the outside. Placeing it back in the whole i used self tapping screws to close the whole. Replace the plastic piece and install the windsheild wipers. That solved my problem. Good luck!

I cut my carpet out, in a small box (that would be hidden my a floor mat) fixed the rust (that you WILL have too) and removed the drain plug. No worries here.

Do you have any photos of the fix? Thank you.

pull off the cowl and check that the drains in the corner are not clogged, also check the blower motor seal, like the other gasket mentioned it gets old and cracks allowing water in.
