Drove to the store then my XJ would not even turn over?
Took a friend down the street to get some smokes. We made it to the store and on the way back, no crank! We had to walk home!
I turned the key and the dash lights lit up, but no crank. I checked the wiring under the hood and everything looked good. It started right up when I we left, but no go after I shut it off.
I just had the crank angle sensor replaced, so it is not that.
Any tips?

One of mine does that, sticky NSS. If I park it hot, it will always start. If I just "re park", cold the NSS sticks 1/2 the time. See>>>
If you hold the key over, and jiggle the shifter in park or neutral and it starts, it's your NSS. http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neut...ty-switch-nss/

Thanks for the speedy reply!
Sorry I am new to Jeeps. NSS = Neutral Safety Switch?
What is the quick fix to get it home without towing it? Will the NSS throw a code that I can detect?

As mentioned, hold key, jiggle shifter. Try in park and N.
If there are others , I'm unaware.
Tho hacker that I am I would probably try jumping selenoid.

Just found out recently that my starting issue was the NSS, turns out that it's much more common than I thought. Even if it turns out that it isn't your problem, it would be a good thing to take care of anyways. All you have to do is clean it.

I am going to go try and see if I can get it to start and make it home to troubleshoot it further. Wish me luck!

Ok, she started right up this morning after sitting in the gas station parking lot for 8 hours. I got it home (it was less than a mile away) and parked it and shut it off, then tried to start it again, nothing. Tried holding the key in the start position and moving the shifter and still nothing. I kind of tapped on the NSS (exhaust was too hot) and still nothing.
I am going to let it sit for an hour or two and go try it again. Since nothing happened while moving the shifter around with the key in the start position, does that rule out the NSS? I checked my UltraGauge and it does not show any codes (current or pending). Voltage was right around 14.16 or so (per the UG).
Anywhere else to poke around?
It looks like a new NSS is $43 shipped, should I just replace it anyways?

Here is a how to if you need to bypass the switch.
You can take the switch off the jeep and clean them, but they can be a ***** sometimes. I ended up breaking mine and bought an eBay one for around $40 and it works great. Otherwise, these parts can go up to around $200 for a new one so be careful taking it off.
