well, finally fixed it up. ran good for about 3-4 weeks. drive to sheetz to get a drink for wrestling match later. go to start it. stalls. so i go to restart it. loud noise i have ever heard a car make. sounds like metal griding somewhere. i dont think its transmission cause its sounds from the engine block. but i dont know. its in shop. but can anyone give me and idea of what it is... and also, after two truck came, he started it. and it ran alright. not as bad of sound. but still had a bad sound. no grinding. any ideas? just gotta get a price range atleast.. thanks!!!

 

Timing Chain Maybe ...???

 

maybe, but would that get so loud, that the people in sheetz looked out the window. it was VERRRY loud. and a guy who checked my oil said it looked like metal in the oil.

 

Grenaded a rod maybe. Pull the pan and have a look. If it is the timing chain or a rod you can see both from there with the pan off.

 

nope. i looked up a video of a jeep with a blown rod... wayyyy louder than that.. it kind out sounds like maybe a fan? a piston is grinding up against the block? its so loud people pluged there ears, and people in the back of sheetz stoped and turnd.

 

Sounds to me like the starter bumping against a grenaded flywheel to me.

 

well thanks everyone. i should get called by the shop soon, and i will post what is wrong with it. but i wont let the xj die.. im willing to pay for any repair.
