i have checked the cat and it seems fine, i cant get it to rattle or make any noise by knocking on it or tapping or even kicking it.
I do have some more symtoms though , i never really drive the jeep fater then about 60 (local speed limit ) but today i was on the highway and it was moving ifast, when i got it up to about 64 and on about up to 69 it made the noise but really fast , but only under acceleration, when i would let off the gas is would dissappear. ?
what do you think?

It also does not have the smoothest idle ( it shakes a little) might be unrelated but i have changed all the vacume hoses and the plugs and wires and cap and rotor and all of that stuff. it smoothed it out a little but not all the way

OK i need to change something. the noise and claking vibration is happening all of the time more so when i am facing or driving up or down a steeper hill.
I also tried to figure out where the vibration (which is not a good way to describe it) it is more like a rhythmic deep hard click. The only thin thing that is consistent is that the noise goes away for about 2 seconds when i shift in or out of any gear. but the noise happens even in neutral. Also, whn trying to narrow down where it was really coming from i devised a test.
I turned the truck on and had my girlfriend work the pedal i ran my hand all the way down the truck , and when i got to the rear part of the front passenger door it the part that was vibrating the worst. I got in and had her drive me down the street , with my feet on the floor direclty in front of the seat the vibration was really bad. When i would put my feet more than 5 inches forward or back, i could not feel any vibration.
What do you guys think?

A couple more things to check, from your latest info:
1. Does the noise go away in neutral, or with the clutch pedal in?
Possible throwout bearing...also check fluid level in clutch master cylinder.
2. Possible loose transmission mounts, or loose crossmember.
This would allow movement/misalignment potentially causing noise.
3. Possible bad u-joints on driveshaft, particularly front one.
While you're under there, also check driveshaft for bending, rock damage/dents, or possibly out of balance.
4. Possible bad tailshaft bearing in transmission.
Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!

under the rig there is a heavy plastic bracket mounted up in the transmission tunnel, right above the t-case output/driveshaft connection...
It can hang down an drag on the driveshaft... errrr... mine did this after I put in a belly-up pan and new tranny mount... the bracket was not loose, simply all the gear got elevated/moved closer to the tunnel/bracket and caused rubbing.
Believe it or not, mine did act differently warm/cold, on/off throttle, and even turning left/right.
The "vibration" was easiest felt, in the floor, passenger side, behind the front seat... changed pitch with rpm, and did indeed sound very similar to rod knock.
I thought the rig was coming apart, but un bolting the bracket, some simple work with a set of tin snips, and bolting it back up... all has been fine.
Under the rig, I could see on the drive shaft where it had been rubbing, and the bracket was allready partially "clearenced" by the drive shaft.
If that is not it, inspect the length of both drive shafts for signs of rubbing... especially at the knuckles as these are oblonged and would more likely create the rattle/vibration.
Good luck.

hey guys do you think that that would apply seeing as how i am only 2 wheel drive? i will get under there today and take a look at all of that. it does make the noise in any gear, and how would i know if the tail shaft bearing was bad wouldn't it be leaking? please let me know, thanks guys so much you have all been such a big help. If anyone is in austin tx and wants to come help, ill buy the beers.

My engine has a "Ticking" noise in it aswell that is present at idle up till about 1,500RPM untill the engine noise over powers it...the noise is present on the passanger side lower half of the engine block...and im willing to be it is just Lifter tap. I am running 10W30 and will try to switch to a thicker oil and see what it does. It doesnt do it when its cold in the morning and the oil is cold and thick...so i guess i just have worn lifters.
