Default weird starting issue... wont stop trying to start!!

its this 87 4 banger i got for parts... was messing with it to see if itll start and it will!!! with alittle starting fluid itll run... but the dang starter wont quit trying to start it! just keeps going and going... even if i turn the key all the way back off! i have to run up and unhook the jumper cables and battery cables... i think its some kind of relay sticking somewhere... or maybe the ignition switch is sticking? i dunno... wanted to get some ideas...

EDIT... new found info... its a 85... not 87.. dude had no idea what he was selling me i guess and it didnt really matter to me cause i got it for parts... but that means i dont need a title!

check your relays and fuses but the worst is you might have to get a new starter

theres what looks like some kind of solenoid next to the battery that clicks and pops when i put the battery cable back on... also even if i unhook the battery cables and put them right back on itll keep trying to start... lol... ill have to wait a second before i can stick them back on...

wouldnt be the starter cause something is still sending power to the starter... oh wait... if the solenoid is sticking on the starter and its a starter with the solenoid on it... it could be... im not replacing a starter unless it dirt cheap... lol

i know this is off-topic to the stated problem.. but in my 2000 xj you have to turn the key to run for a few seconds till the dash lights go out to crank it when its cold or if it has been sitting for a few hours or it takes forever to start. if i forget to turn it to run then if i just put the gas pedal all the way down it will start.. what could cause that?

well i cant even jump the starter... it wont start now cause the starter welded itself on the inside somewhere... guess it was the starter solenoid that was sticking and caused the starter wiring to overheat inside and weld itself to the case or something... im not fixing it... lol... at least i know itll run...

The thing next to the battery is the stater seliniod relay. My 87 was doing the same thing. The seliniod on the starter was going bad and was not disengadgeing,so it was trying to turn the motor over when it was allready running.I ended up getting a starter off of an 89 at my local salvage yard.Haven't had any problems sinse.

you could probly update that starter to the one with built in solinod sounds like thought the starter is weld ingaged to the flywheel and after it kept run it fried the solinod

hey i am haveing starting problems too. it sounds like the wire running to your stater the small ( should be green one ) is getting juice continuousness so i would pull it off your relay then turn your key to the running spot then i would touch that to your positive and see if that works. but thats just me if it dose your stater relay is bad. i am also having problems with my current at my stater being off. i am trying a third new stater tommro but i am not getting my 12.5 volts at my stater with my small green wire. and i don,t why? dose anybody know why?
