Is it normal I'm not sure how to describe the smell but I'm guessing its just them breaking in?
did you install any new pipe with the new cat? The pipe is coated with some "stuff" so that it doesn't rust before it is installed on the vehicle. That is more than likely what you are smelling. I'm not sure but I believe the new cats have it on them as well. It should burn off after a day or two. If you can still smell it after a few days there may be another problem.
