.... i have switched around all the wires about 15 times now......even ran a wire from the head unit to power from the fuse pannel and didnt work. i have have no problem conecting 10 color coated wires to 10 different color coated wires... but i think that somewhere the wire got spliced into from the guy before me. i got another head unit laying in my room im going to wire it up. if it doesnt work might have to sell the jeep and buy a different one.

its your ground. hook your multimeter to the ground you are using and then turn the lights on. if your ground bounces around then just hook to another ground.

i've seen this before, is why i say this.

if it doesn't work, just sell the jeep and get another one

That's funny because I just bought my 89 XJ and the PO put a CD player in it and it does the same thing, when the key goes off the memory is gone. It's a real rats nest in there and I haven't even tried to figure it out yet. I suspect tho that the stock radio power/ground wires are to blame. Run a new ground and new power wires to known good sources. If after that you still have the problem it's could be the radio itself.

If I'm correct i'm pretty sure the yellow and red both get connected together and the dimmer isn't used trust me

nope that doesnt work eather cause than it never shuts off.... but the 4 wires i have left over out of the jeep are pink, purple with white line, blue with red line, and orange with black line. and i already had the pink to red and purple with white to the yellow like the diagram shows and it still doesnt save the memory. it has a good ground and shows it getting 12v on the constant all the time. i dont get it!!!! time to look on craigs for a new jeep
