Default Weird noises from driveline while engine-braking

About a week ago i was helping a friend move. So i had a lot of weight in the back of my '92 trying to back up his steep driveway. I didn't want to touture my clutch or rev the engine too much (Being in a nice neighborhood and having no muffler) so i dropped it into 4low. I rarly use 4low so i was a bit rough with it not knowing where the friction zone was exactly.

Anyways, when i as driving home, i noticed a weird low vibrating sound but only when i was decelerating using the engine (I have manual tranny) and it sounded like it was coming from my rear diff. So i stopped using the engine to slow down since it was an hour drive home. By the time i got home i forgot about it, and didn't notice it again. Until today, but now it's a mid-high pitched screech, and sounds like it's coming from the transmission now, and i don't hear the first sound anymore. It only last a split second. I honestly have no clue what is causing it. My best guess on the new sound would be the clutch, but it was just replaced a year ago and i haven't been abusing it. Any ideas?

x2 on that^ If it hasn't been changed and there's a good amount of miles on it, that last heavy load could have made it go.

Yeah!
It's got 217k miles, and i don't think it has been replaced. Last owner kept EVERY recite he got for this truck, which i organized in an Excel document. So i have it's entire service history, which is really nice!

Thanks guys! Now to find out how much it will be at my mechanics -.-

Good luck! Make sure they take a good look too and take it for a drive. They might be able to spot something else if it doesn't turn out to be the throw out bearing. Sometimes it can be something totally different.

I sure as hell hope it isn't more than 250, otherwise it won't get fixed for a while since i don't have a job... But i trust my Mechanic, he runs the local Aamco shop and we've been going to him for about 6 years now. He know's i know must of my stuff when it comes to basic issues like this, i just don't know what the parts are called xD

I googled a few kits from clutchmasters just for fun, and a few are around the $400 mark. Unfortunately, none are for jeeps. You may save a few bucks getting an upgrade from somewhere and having a buddy help out with it. Just my .02

Yeahh, that's why I said have a buddy help. haha. Someone that knows a good amount about a manual tranny. I'm not a specialist, but I know the basics of how a tranny works.

It isn't really that bad. I'm in the process of wrapping up my clutch kit replacement in my '96. The worst part is a pair of bolts at the top of the transmission. They're E12 bolts and nearly impossible to get to. I bought a LuK clutch kit from Pep Boys for $138.

(Assuming you have an ax-15)

I think it's the ax-15. If you do the work yourself, make sure you replace the small spring which holds the clutch fork to the pivot ball. You'll see what I mean when you get in there. It's only a few bucks.
